Beware of Skilled People

People around us are not always the right people. Last year I went to one of the colleges along with my nephew for pre-admission counseling. A teacher started nicely with the strict timetable that they maintain to help students succeed in the IIT-JEE exam. There was no free time for other activities even for self-study. The teacher said how hard one should work to get into IIT (though my nephew had no interest in joining IIT). The teacher did not even ask my nephew whether he wants to study at IIT or not. My nephew looked at me and we both smiled. It looked more like a prison than an education center to me. Many relatives and friends said, it is a very good college, it is very strict and all.  Finally, he got admitted to some other college. My question is how can these teachers/sales guys (current scenario) mislead the students and parents when they themself never been to IITs. Pardon me, I am not questioning their capabilities to teach science. The way they snatch money in the nam...

How Much Negativity In Life Is Enough?

In a routine life, there is not much negativity or positivity around. A normal person is, at least, in peace - if not completely enthusiastic or depressed on any given day. The intensity and magnitude of emotions showed to any particular incident decides whether it's going to be a suffering, joy or equinamity post that incident. Coming to suffering or pain, some of it in life is necessary and is must. It cannot be completely taken out from anyones' life by any kind of power. Some people are calm and joyful most of the times and some are mostly miserable without any reason. In a society, personalities of all kind exist. As a society we live in small packets comprising all types of people. At a given time, one or the other in that packet must face good or bad things in life. Depending on that, persons' mental state is expected to be joyful or sorrowful. If mind is full of joy - wonderful! If mind is calm and composed - great! If calmness is straight line then joy falls on pos...

Everest Base Camp Trek: My Experience

Image
E very journey starts with a motto. By looking at nervous me in one of the restaurants in Kathmandu, Chef said “Marna hi he to kahi par bhi meraga, a chat yah ape neeche girke yaha pe bhi marega, Lukla me flight land karte time bhi marega. Mene kabhi EBC pe gaya nahi lekin suna he experience bahut mast rehta karke. Agar itna maut se darega to kabhi naya kuch try hi nahi karega aur naya experience bhi nahi milega.” (You can die anywhere. If this ceiling falls down, you will die right now, if the flight doesn’t land in Lukla then also you would die. I have never been to EBC or Lukla before, but, I heard from many the great experiences they had. If you are scared of death so much, then you will never try anything new.) Tenzing-Hillary (Lukla) Airport- 527 m runway 15 seater planes to and from Kathmandu to Lukla  Motivation often helps. My problem was different – altitude and lack of practice. I had no prior trekking experience. I was nervous about 12 long day trek and altitude. I had ...

Why Just Corona?

Today, we are fighting to save our life from Corona. Tomorrow, we may have to fight with some other viruses or any other microorganisms. What is coming next? You never know or predict it using any model,  Right now, there's no lab in the world who is not working on Corona. Research started on corona when its spread became deadly. Before that no one (I mean both authorities and researchers) bothered to find a solution for it. One can understand that there might be many reasons for not taking care of it. However, let's not discuss about that. There are different set of people, in the society, who are born to blame each other. Let's leave that job for them.  Viruses/bacteria or any other microorganisms have physical, chemical and biological characteristics. If I am not wrong, based on that as well classification happens. Even a slight modification in DNA or RNA or any other entity in microorganism could give rise to new type of microbes. These may or many not harm humanity or ...

Who is The Killer of Science?

Science and Religion – one depends on the proof and the other on faith. Science is entertaining. It opens up the door for creativity in an individual. If you look at it closely, Science and Religion both are leading us to the same destination, i.e., oneness. Science and Religion are communicated to people with the help of Philosophies. Fight among these two entities never stops. We find extremists on both sides. Each side condemns and degrades the other in every possible way. However, there’s no ultimate winner. When God can’t solve the problem, people go to Science and vice versa. This never stops. Today, Science and Religion both seem incomplete. Science fascinated many, and it will happen in the future as well. Then, what is science? – In my opinion, Science is an activity where a person or group of people get involved in solving a complex (relative term) natural phenomenon by doing experiments and observation. Science is the most fascinating activity because of liberty...

The Mountain's Call

Motivation First, it started with nursery, school, college and then university. Ah, half of my life was gone with academic books and rules. At the end of the highest degree in academia, I somehow started feeling that I wasted my life in here and was clueless about my future after my degree. It is very unusual, at my age, to not to have a set goal. Too many questions, enquiries and advice were irritating me every day. I was not in a whirlpool of thoughts or mid-life crisis, but I was wondering whether this is what life is? -  grades, jobs, wedding and kids. It seemed like a pattern set by the society which is streamlined from birth to death. If anyone doesn't follow this- then there's something wrong with that person. In PhD, I had developed a particular layer of skin which responds to nothing. Hence, I was happy. I happily rejected a job offer and an interview call after my exams.  I just wanted to get rid of this cycle and see what happens.  After having a discus...

Before You Fall In The Trap of An Ambition And Competition - Go To The River

Image
Education institutes are seeing an increasing number of dropouts, mental health issues and suicides year by year. It is a serious issue. Yesterday, one more student ended his life by jumping off from the hostel in Hyderabad. In a suicide note, he has written:  "Life rather seems depressing I have no clue how my future is going to be. I have been feeling this for the past two months. Also, the courses are going bad for me. I could not concentrate well...,( Indiatoday.in ) " - Isn't it really unfortunate thing? The number of such incidents are scaringly high and are increasing. One cannot blame the victim's mental capability alone for such acts. Nothing happens without any reason. Parents, friends, relatives and fast-moving science and technology are putting huge pressure on students. On top of it, teachers are also failing miserably to train students in the right direction. There is no one to show a proper direction. Everyone is busy waiting for that grand succes...

Men Cannot Do Cent Percent of What Actually Women Have Been Doing for Centuries

Women are useless and a burden to men. After all, what mothers do at home? Cooking, shopping, cleaning, caring in-laws and kids that's it.  As a mother, she and her health is a burden to a son. As a wife, her non-sense and her never-ending talks, wishes are a burden to a husband. As a sister, her responsibility is always a headache. As a girlfriend, she is the most annoying thing on the earth. Her expectations, irritations and demands make men feel inferior. Most men know women only from her body - a pleasure/reproduction house and as a caretaker. As a colleague, either they're too dominating or shy. Their presence itself is an obstacle to many men. 99% of men missed the most excellent opportunity of becoming billionaires only because of women in their life - as a mother, wife, sister, or girlfriend.   If men are asked to imagine a day without a woman, men would feel a great relief from all these pains. Who doesn't want this kind of heaven? - A day without a wom...

Good People Suffer Politics

Intellectuals are more political because they just don't count but, read numbers. The intent of intellectuals, often in the form of opinion, makes an impression along with impact on certain decisions. They keep track of all ongoing situations as set of data points. For them, 'no use' kind of situation/information is of no 'no use'. In statistical analysis, one can throw any kind of conclusion, depending on what kind of analysis one is doing. It's hard to distinguish between right or wrong - as it can represented in a different way (not right/wrong way). Good people suffer politics not because they don't know how to play politics but, they think they're good and politics is bad. Earlier, society was highly unorganized and uncertain. Rules were introduced on mutual agreements, between two people / group of people / communities, not for benefit but, just to maintain the stability and order. Certainty replaced uncertainty. Rules were/are not God - as the...

PhD is A Part of Life, Don't Make It Life.

In continuation of the last blog on PhD here is my next article.  Observing hundreds of PhD students in the last five years during my research, I can say that, "Gods" can help everyone only till Masters, not in PhD. Many of us agree, right?  The phase through which PhDs walk is unique and unimaginable. It is very tough to motivate and understand their problem. PhDs become more of thinkers than doers in the first couple of years, and this illness continues. Monotonous, boring lifestyle and loneliness bring every weakness out of us. Strengths won't help them anymore. People simply get busy doing nothing.  Most of us have an idea about science but not research. Science is very fascinating, but research. One should look at reality first. Research teaches us how to approach a problem? If there's no problem, then creating one by finding the gap from previous research done by others. As per my understanding, these are the two broad categories of research.  ...
